The New Audi R8 Upgrade All Set to Launch in 2012
The German automaker is quite confident about its brand new Audi R8 supercar, which is its current top of the line model based on the Le Mans Quattro concept car. The car is set to get more powerful and more fuel-efficient engines to match fresh styling when the mid-life upgrade is revealed later this year. Audi launched the car in September 2006 and the recent video released by the company celebrates more than five years of R8 production. Meanwhile, the supercar has starred in a number of Bollywood blockbusters. It has participated in some of the most famous and grueling races in the world. And most important of all, it became so popular that Audi launched a whole revolution of models inspired by the R8.
The forthcoming Audi R8 will get a relatively minor update, with a complete overhaul due with the second-generation R8 around 2014/2015. This year’s upgraded version is expected to feature larger LED headlights, a sharper grille and revised front intakes. According to the latest reports, Audi has gone to work on the R8’s 4.2-litre V8 engine to enhance the performance of the car and decrease fuel consumption and emissions. The current powerplant of the car produces 309kW and 430Nm and it sprints from 0-100km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The new version is equipped with more efficient six-speed sequential transmission and will burn through 13.6 litres of fuel per 100km.
The previous version of Audi R8 debuted at the Paris Motor Show almost six years ago. If all goes well the new version- the two-seat all-wheel-drive supercar will be unveiled at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The R8 has been a successful flagship model for Audi with 305 registered locally since the car arrived 5 years back. Sales were up 32 per cent previous year while nine were sold across January and February this year.
