In all, Toyota has recalled a many as 6 million vehicles in regard to the unintended acceleration issue. A first batch of nearly 4 million vehicles were recalled to change a faulty floor mat that was believed to have caused the problem. But last week, things took another ugly turn and Toyota had to recall another 2.3 million vehicles after recognizing that the issue could also be due to sticky accelerator pedal.
Here’s a recap of the latest news related to the Toyota Recall for its faulty accelerator pedal.
- Toyota’s fix for the sticky accelerator pedal has received clearance from U.S. federal regulators. This follows a global recall of eight Toyota models that have experienced an “unintended acceleration”, as a result of a “sticky” accelerator pedal. Toyota is expected to make an announcement as early as Monday morning regarding the fix, and Toyota’s deployment plans.
- A “selective spacer” or shim will be used as the fix for the fault pedals to increase the tension within the pedal and cause it to come back to its default position. Toyota plans to produce unto 120,000 shims a day. So expect it to be a while before your car makes it to the dealership for the fix.
- Over 2 million vehicles have been recalled in Europe. 100,000 Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 models are also being recalled (there were made at a factory where the French group and Toyota make their cars together). It has also been reported that over 75,000 Toyota vehicles have been recalled in China.
- “I feel very sorry that we have caused our customers unease. We are now working to grasp the facts so that we can deliver an explanation as quickly as possible,” Toyota President Akio Toyoda apologized to customers in an interview Friday with Japanese broadcaster NHK.
- CTS Corp., the company that supplied Toyota with the faulty accelerator pedals has issued a statement stating that the fault accelerator pedals cannot be “linked with any sudden unintended acceleration incidents.” They claim that, while they build the pedals based on design details from Toyota, they are not aware of any accidents or injuries caused due to the faulty pedals.
- Toyota is pulling out full-page newspaper advertisements today to explain to the public the purpose of the recall and suspended sales. In the ad, Toyota mentions “Why have we taken this unprecedented action? Because it is the right thing1 to do for our customers.” In a clear sign of the world’s number one automakers desperation at this unprecedented crisis, Toyota is reaching back at its customers and reassuring them that they are the reason that the company exists today.

Toyota is accepting the full responsibility while CTS is saying that they have nothing to do with the recall. Is my translation wrong?
You're right. Hopefully this will all end well, and Toyota might consider a better supplier who owns up to their mistakes.
Hey Sandy… the correct answer to this would be "Certain 2009-2010 RAV4"…
You can read more about it on the official Toyota Press Release page – http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/toyota-...
