Sources reveal that the McLaren MP4-12C super car will be getting a delayed launch, meaning that the car will not feature at the LA auto show. Mclaren automotive unveiled the car’s final design a month ago, and it was expected at the LA auto show in December, but the work seem to be progressing more slowly than expected. The reason for the delaying could be to save the media hype to the point when they get prepared to start taking orders.

As the economy is showing signs of recovery, that will probably lead to more buyers interest. We expect the debut to be at least by the mid-2010, which brings a possibility of a potential New York Auto show debut.Regarded as the successor to the McLaren F1 super car, the new MP4-12C gets powered by a 3.8L V8 twin turbo engine delivering 600hp of power and 422 lb-ft of torque. The engine gets mated with a 7-speed Seamless Shift dual-cletch gearbox equipped with “Pre-Cog” that enables faster gear changes and superior performance. Similar to the McLaren F1,the MP4-12C also gets a carbon fiber body, which results in minimized weight. The car reportedly weights only about 2,866 pounds.

The MP4-12C gets priced at £150,000 and will be competing against other popular names like the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Ferrari 459 Italia. Only about 4,500 units gets to be built, so pre-orders will be a dominant constituent in early sales. However, the sales are not expected to begin before mid 2011. McLaren will introduce a spider version of the car thereafter.
