Volkswagen To Build Porsche Boxster Later This Year

Volkswagen has announced that it will begin manufacturing the Porsche Boxster, which will commence production later this summer at Porsche’s factory in Zuffenhausen. The right utilization of the VW Group’s wide-reaching resources will benefit Porsche – with the use of Volkswagen’s Osnabrueck car plant expected to handle overflow orders of the all-new 2013 Boxster. As a result, the plant that currently produces the Volkswagen Golf Cabrio models will be producing much livelier Porsche Boxster convertibles.

Initially, the Osnabrueck, Germany, plant was in fact serving VW as an assembler under the Wilhelm Karmann brand, constructing various models over the years. It included the Beetle Cabriolet, and even the Chrysler Crossfire. Karmann finally went bankrupt and was bought out in 2009 by VW. These arrangements aren’t unexpected as the plans for the Osnabrück option were first mentioned as far back as 2010.
