If you have been waiting for the last two years for Volvo to bring out a four-door variant of its distinctive C30 coupe, then perhaps you might be disappointed. But then, the next best thing is here. The Swedish auto maker is making an addition to its SUV/Crossover lineup with the Volvo XC30 – its newest compact crossover.

Volvo is working on its plans to bring a BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Mini Countryman competitor in the form of Volvo XC30, a compact crossover based on the C30 hatchback.  The Volvo XC30 would be Volvo’s fourth crossover vehicle after the XC90, XC70, and XC60. As of now, information is sketchy at best with no hard facts to report except that the soft-roader will feature a range of petrol and turbo-diesel engines and chunky styling, similar to that of the XC60.

The next generation of C30 models will offer a five-door version as well as the current three-door version. Lex Kerssemakers, Volvo’s President for Overseas Corporate Strategy, states the reason, “We elected five years ago to go deliberately with the three doors because it makes a great design statement. It’s easier.  But at the end, a big part of the market is five-door market and not in the three-door market.”

In news related to Ford Motor Company, the Geely and Volvo deal seems hanging off a cliff as the China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Chairman, Li Shufu, points to issues surrounding the agreement between the two parties. As WSJ reports,  the talks have hit a snag because of unspecified problems at Ford. Geely, on the other hand, is consistent in its efforts to close the deal and complete the acquisition. “We’re ready to seal the deal. If the deal fails, the problem is not on our side. We have not violated any part of the agreement,” said Li Shufu.
