Toyota Working on New In-house Tuning Division Named ‘G’
Reports are abound of an in-house tuning division, named ‘G’ within Toyota. Autoblog reports that the G line could be a joint collaboration with Modelista, a company that has been supplying exterior components to Toyota, and TRD, a company that handles engine, brakes and suspensions for Toyota.
At the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota introduced a few performance enhanced cars, which included the Toyota Prius G, Toyota Mark X G Sports Concept and the Toyota FT-86 G. While most of us don’t expect much of an performance-enhance Toyota Prius, the same cannot be said for the FT-86G. Due to hit the markets later this year the performance-enhanced FT-86G comes with a sportier look, upgraded brakes and track-designed suspension components.
As you expect – this is a welcome change in the kind of news that has been flowing out of Toyota lately. Toyota has had a miserable week, with a massive recall of 4 million units related to a fault accelerator pedal component in eight of its models. Hopefully, they get out of that mess quick without aggravating the situation, and get back to designing and producing these ‘G’ models.
