Monterey 2009: Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder debuts

On August 15, 2009 Spyker cars, introduced the first prototype of its new generation Spyker sports car Spyker C8 Aileron. The occasion was the 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance in Monterey, California . Spyker is a Dutch automobile manufacturer. They have been making elite sports cars since its launch in 2000. The latest addition to line up is all new C8 Aileron. Earlier in the Geneva Auto show in March, Spyker had announced the development of the convertible and they introduced the production version of the C8 Aileron. On August 15, in Monterey they showed the first prototype of the open-top model which will go into production next year. With the mark of the second generation of its sports cars, Spyker takes this as their next, big step in the industry.

The new C8 Aileron is a logical extension of its previous vehicles. Like the original C8, minor modifications are done for the drop-top duty. It showcases a high quality, semi automatic soft-top. The roof’s operation is electric/hydraulic, secured by a manually operated central latch. When folded, the soft top fully encloses with the body. The soft top has a rear glass window that comes in eight different colors. This new generation Aileron is an advance two- seat sports car with a longer-wheel base than the previous C8 models. The car makes a distinctive statement with its hand crafted design added with the finest materials. It is a light-weight all aluminum vehicle with a distinctive design.

Several changes have been made to improve the aerodynamic performance. Most of the shark-like grills have been removed. The larger grills in the front enable additional cooling. An extra spoiler under the diffuser provides more down force to strengthen the ground effect. Also, single-pane side windows have replaced the old split side windows. The headlights have been thoroughly redesigned and made of LEDs. The C8 Aileron Spyder is available in 16 standard colors, out of which customers may choose the colour they wish as an option along with the Spyker Squadron GT2 color scheme.

The Aileron comes with a V8 engine with 400 bhp and it generates 354 lbs of torque at 3400 rpm. It has a manual six-speed gear box with perfectly matched ratios for the V8 engine. A six-speed automatic gear box is optional. It delivers an impressive, top speed of 300Km/h. Another outstanding outcome is its acceleration to 60mph in just 4.5 seconds. A newly-designed, 19-inch alloy wheels is an addition. New 12-blade, 19-inch, directional rotor wheels are optional. The C8 Aileron’s brakes are supplied by AP Racing. The Black brake callipers with Spyker script are standard. Color-coded callipers with Spyker script come as an option. Longer-wheel base provides more stability at higher speeds than the previous versions.

On the interior, the space has been increased owing to a longer chassis. Interior Leather is of high quality and is available in 14 standard colors. Aileron comes with a factory fitted Kharma audio system paired with six loudspeakers. Other features like Bluetooth connection, i-pod connectivity and a navigation system are also included. There is a multifunctional LCD panel between the speedometer and odometer. Effort has been made to improve the ergonomics and functionality. Air vents are designed in turbo style, and there is a significant improvement in air conditioning.
