Nissan LEAF All Set to Be Recognized As Fastest EV Car in Reverse
Electric cars are not all about efficiency but can be a fun ride too. To drive home this point, Nissan is planning to set a new record with the LEAF. The automaker is trying to set a record of fastest car in the reverse direction with the all-electric LEAF. And the automaker has chosen the perfect venue for this stunt: the forthcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed.
In the combustion engine cars, the reverse gear allows only a low speed. But the all-electric powertrains do not have this limitation and theoretically speaking, the electric vehicles can be driven backwards with the same speed as in the forward direction. This means the LEAF can clock a top speed of 90 mph in the backward direction. However, the production LEAF cars have an electronic feature to limit the reversing speed. But the car that will be brought to the Goodwood Festival of Speed will have this electronic system removed.
Nissan is also attempting another record with the Juke at the same venue. Juke will attempt to climb the Goodwood hill on two wheels and will also be aiming to be the fastest four-wheeled machine to climb the entire course using just two wheels. Professional stunt driver Terry Grant will be driving the LEAF and the Juke while attempting these records, performing these stunts once every day.
Also, the racing version of the LEAF, the Nissan LEAF NISMO RC will make its UK debut at this festival. This car features a lithium-ion battery composed of 48 compact modules and a high-response 80kW AC synchronous motor generating 107 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque.
