Lamborghini Urus to Triple Annual Production for the Italian Automaker

As a part of the upcoming Volkswagen Group Premium SUV onslaught Lamborghini has introduced the Urus or LB736. With just the Aventador and Gallardo in its line-up, Lamborghini has been searching for a third model to boost its sales and improve its fortunes. We were expecting a four-seater setup a little like the first generation Porsche Cayenne. The official debut for the edgy 4×4 happens right about now at the Beijing Motor Show as China has been foreseen as a good market for the supersonic SUV.

Lamborghini president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann has said that though the two-door supersport sector is doing well a steady small decline for two-door sports cars producing over 400 horsepower and costing over $100,000 is predicted. The Urus is expected to triple annual production singlehandedly for the Italian automaker.Winkelmann has said that it would the SUV is most likely to be powered by a twin-turbo V-8 with a hybrid system putting out 600 combined horsepower. The key to the vehicle’s performance lies in lightweight construction, an adjustable suspension that combines different setting for on-road performance while allowing the vehicle to increase ground clearance for off-road excursions as well as active aerodynamics to improve fuel economy.

In terms of appearance unlike other Lamborghinis this model has a high tech look and rides on massive 24 inch wheels. The roofline is low and at top of the rear hatch is a large moveable spoiler. Winkelmann said that when the decision is made to go forward it could take as long 4 to 5 years for it to reach production.
