As per reports from UK, McLaren is working on MP4-12C Spider version. The rumors about the spider version were creeping in since the early stages of the MP4-12C back in February. Now, just a month after the launch of McLaren’s super sports car MP4-12C the rumors are almost confirmed.

The MP4-12C super cars will be assembled at McLaren’s Technical Centre in Woking, England initially. Later its production will be moved to the developing manufacturing facility next to the Woking Technology Center.  The McLaren Spider is expected to be a fantastic drop-top version of MP4-12C. It will flaunt all the features so as to go head-to-head with the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, Ferrari 458 Italia Spider, and upcoming Mercedes SLS AMG Cabriolet. The McLaren will boast a RHT (Retractable Hard-Top) Webasto’s convertible expertise. According to the layouts of McLaren’s new Woking factory, a portion of the facility has been dedicated to Webasto RHT Sub Assembly.  The MP4-12C coupe will be powered by the 600-hp, 440-pound-feet, 3.8-litre twin-turbo V-8. It must speed from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and race on to 200mph.

The model will present a scissor-door and a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox. The tiny hood will mostly be made from lightweight aluminum or even carbon fibre. It will fold away behind the occupant’s head ahead of the engine and slot beneath a pair of sporty buttresses. The drop-top Spider will obviously weigh less than its fixed-roof brother.  As the construction of the new 18,000 sq-ft factory has not even been begun, the new models will be assembled at the same facility that was used to build the SLR for Mercedes-Benz. The first of the cars are scheduled for delivery in 2011. Once the plant is ready about 4,500 cars will be produced annually.

This will happen by about 2015. The customers will have to pay an amount much more than the coupe version to own one of them, and the price is likely to start at around £175,000. With the MP4-12C Spider, McLaren Automotive will have a strong bid to make to assault the exotic super car market.
