Volkswagen Up! GT Confirmed For Production
Volkswagen has confirmed that the hatchback version of the Up! GT will enter the production lines. The concept version of this car debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show alongside the production version of the Up!
The Golf GTI was one of the hottest hatches in the market and the automaker wants the Up! GT to take its place. The concept Up! GT was fitted with 17 inch alloy wheels and a modified front fascia. The front grille was wider and also the car was fitted with bigger brake ducts with integrated LED accents. The rear of the car featured a diffuser, a spoiler and twin exhaust pipes.
We are expecting the production version of this car to be similar to the concept version, with slight modifications in the visuals. Details are scarce yet, but rumors suggest that the tiny three cylinder engine from the Up! will find its way to the GT version, but with a turbo attached to it. The power output is expected to be in the 110 horsepower range and will be redirected to the wheels via a six-speed gearbox.
Volkswagen has said that the car will have a kerb weight as low as 900 kg and will follow the footsteps, well let’s say, the tracks of the original Golf GTI. The market debut of this car is yet to be announced, but do not expect this car to be available in the market before 2013.
