Harley-Davidson Records Sales Increase In 2011

Bike manufacturer Harley-Davidson had had quite a good time in the market in the year 2011. If the company’s sales stats are taken into account, sales figures had increased by 5.9 per cent globally while comparing it with the sales figures in 2010. In the United States alone, the percentage increase stood at 5.8 per cent.

On the whole, 235,188 bikes sold last year carried the Harley-Davidson label. Of this, 151,683 of them were bought by fans in the United States. These sales figures imply that the bike manufacturers grossed a net income of $105.6 million in the past year. This performance was way better than the record in the fourth quarter of 2010, in which a net loss of $46.7 million showed up.

Things haven’t always been too rosy for Harley-Davidson, with the losses incurred last year being just a part of it. With the recession hitting the company hard, the MV Augusta was sold off, while the production of the Buell was brought to a stop in an effort to stop the company from sinking. These steps, however, did seem to save the company in a way of its own – the company posted $4.6 billion revenue in the past year, which translates as a 11.6 per cent increase in comparison with 2010.
